Training Requirements for Sonoma CART Volunteers

FEMA Emergency Management Institute

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers self-paced courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. All are offered free-of-charge to those who qualify for enrollment.

Sonoma CART volunteers are required to complete FEMA Incident Command Systems (ICS) online independent study. Sign up for FEMA SID here

It is recommended for volunteers to complete additional courses:

Pet and Animal Emergency/Disaster Resources

Does your family’s emergency plan include your animals?  Planning and preparation are critical when it comes to protecting the health of your family, pets and livestock.The AVMA provides free electronic downloads of their publication, Saving the Whole Family.  This booklet includes detailed information on assembling emergency kits and plans for a wide variety of animal species.

Our own Sonoma County Fairgrounds has an available evacuation packet to prepare prior to an emergency for sheltering your large animals http://www.sonomacountyfair.com/animal-evacuation.php

The Department of Homeland Security's Ready.gov website has an entire section devoted to emergency planning for your pets and animals.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention also provides helpful information on Disaster Preparedness for your pets.
